Georgia Sports Leagues inaugural softball season are underway with both Men’s and Co-Ed play. Men’s play on Monday nights and Co-Ed play on Wednesday nights.
The Men’s league started last week and are through their 2nd week of play. 6 men’s teams are fighting for the title. The team name title has to go to the “Muffin Stuffers” out of Stone Mountain. With a name like that how can you lose? A close 2nd goes to “Goin Postal” a team made up of….yes you guessed it Postal workers. Might better let them win if you want you mailed to continue to be delivered. Longshots, HGH, Lilburn Merecats, and Teleconference “B” round out the field for the Men’s league.
The Co-Ed league begins week 1 last night with what may already be the game of the year. Kimney-Horn defeated Elite Sports 18-17 in a come from behind win of the ages. The game almost didn’t start as Elite was short a female player to make it a legal game. But fortunately they were able to convince their lone female fan to change into some shorts and join the team. Elite still playing with only 9 players played well with some of the deepest shots hit on this ultra large field. KHA was able to stay close with some good defense and timely hitting. But in the bottom of the last inning KHA was down 17-12. 2 outs later it was still 17-12 and Elite was 1 out away from a short handed win. KHA was not ready to quit yet…hit after hit after hit followed and next thing you know the game was tied with runners of 1st and 3rd and a female up to bat. She hit a soft liner to short which should have ended the game but he misplayed it off his glove and the winning run scored as the ball rolled away. KHA scored 6 runs with 2 outs to win the 1st game of GSL’s Co-Ed season.
If the 1st game is a sign of things to come this season will not be one for the faint hearted. We currently have 4 teams and look to add 2 more before we close out registration. B.O.B.W. (Best of Both Worlds) and D’Ville Dawgs look to also be tough competition in the new season.
Good Luck to All Teams.
